Daniel Ellis
Daniel Ellis is an Oregon-based writer and playwright whose creative practice also includes painting. His work moves between the written word, performance, and visual expression, allowing ideas to take shape through different artistic languages.
The disciplines of theater and painting invite different kinds of attention. A play unfolds through character, time, and dialogue; a painting presents an encounter that can be revisited in a single glance. Ellis’s interests across these forms create opportunities to explore how stories and images communicate.
His developing visual practice is best understood alongside, rather than apart from, his work in writing and theater. The relationship between these disciplines gives his creative identity a distinctive breadth.
Ellis is one of the three artists featured in The Long View, a project that places his work in conversation with painter and sculptor Howard R. Carr and photographer Richard Berenholtz.
